13B Cannon Crewmember FA:95
Enlisted/Officer/Active Duty/Army Reserve Closed to women
The cannon crewmember supervises or serves as a member of field artillery cannon section or ammunition section. Artilery teams support the infantry as well as tank units in combat arenas. Cannon Crewmembers work on cannons known as 'howitzers,' a heavy artillery machine piece with single-barrel firing capability

Requirements:

  • A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area FA


  • A physical demands rating of very heavy (must be able to occasionally lift over 100 pounds with frequent or constant lifting in excess of 50 pounds)


  • Color discrimination of red/green


  • Correctable vision of 20/20 in one eye; 20/100 in other eye


  • Formal training under the auspices of USAFAS is mandatory to qualify for the award of the MOS


Duties:

  • Start and maintain wire and radio communications


  • Identify target locations


  • Operate self-propelled howitzers, ammunition trucks and other vehicles


Training:

  • Job training for a Cannon Crewmember requires nine weeks of Basic Training and 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. The training will take place primarily in the field, with some classroom training. Infantry training never stops. As an infantryman you will constantly work to keep your skills sharp, remain in a constant state of readiness, and actively learning new skills.


  • Training will include:
  • Methods of calculating targets electronically and manually


  • Handling ammunition


  • Operating gun, missile and rocket systems


  • Artillery tactics and battle strategy
