Morale, Welfare, Recreation And Services Officer
As a Services Officer, you will have the opportunity to train, fight and lead in one of the Air Force’s most diverse career fields. You will develop and implement plans, programs, and policies for operation and oversight of a variety of activities in both peacetime and war/contingency operations: feeding, lodging, fitness and sports, mortuary affairs, honor guard, libraries, child development and youth programs, a wide spectrum of recreation activities, and business operations like golf, bowling and clubs. You will also serve as a liaison to the Defense Commissary Agency and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. You will acquire and use resource management skills and ensure sound financial practices in many activities. You will lead a team of military, appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund civilian employees in providing high quality services for active duty, Air Reserve Component, DoD retirees, DoD civilians and family members at bases around the globe in peacetime and contingency/wartime environments. In addition, you may lead and train Prime Readiness in Base Services (RIBS) teams supporting worldwide deployments during contingencies, humanitarian operations and exercises. You may also be called upon to lead or participate in search and recovery efforts (recovering human remains from an aircraft mishap or explosion, for example). Circumstances may require you to operate at a main or established base with permanent equipment and facilities or under austere conditions with portable equipment and facilities. Services is a challenging, customer service oriented career field that relies heavily on teamwork and allows you to interact with a large customer base and develop highly marketable management and leadership skills which prepare you for life after the Air Force. There is no doubt, our society is more reliant than ever on the hospitality, recreation, and fitness industries. Service programs, which ensure high quality of life for our Air Force families, will remain critical.
All Air Force career fields are based on qualifications and job availability.
